The Guatemalan Aero Club has invited us to use their facility at Guatemala City. From there we bus 60 minutes to Antigua, the old Spanish Capital of Central American established in 1543. We stay in the fabulous Camino Real Antigua, one of Antigua's newest and most charming hotels. Two days in Antigua soaking up history and visiting the Finca Filadelphia coffee plantation for a coffee tour, zip lining and lunch.
On Wednesday, we fly 145 nm to Flores, Guatemala (MGMM) for two nights at the Camino Real Tikal Hotel. There is a Wednesday afternoon cruise on the lake and Thursday we spend the day at the Tikal Mayan ruins.
Registration fee per aircraft is $475. All group rate savings for the hotels and tours will be passed directly to the Fly In participants. Your out of pocket costs for hotels with internet and breakfast, airport transfers, tours and Mexican/Belize/Guatemala airport fees including departure taxes will be less than $1,600 for two people in one aircraft. Meals and fuel are additional.
Join us if you can. This will be an excellent mid-winter break in a new destination loaded with history, culture, volcanoes, nature and fascinating flying. You will experience flying through Cuban, Mexican, Belize and Guatemalan airspace. I will provide comprehensive checklists and cockpit aids for the trip. I have done this six times in my C172RG. It is scenic, exciting and downright good fun.
